Royals battle Twins in 9th to hang on and win
June 10th, 2010 – The Kansas City Royals battled the Twins this afternoon in a showdown that ended very dramatically in the 9th inning in favor of KC. Bruce Chen took the mound for the Royals against Scott Baker for the Twins.
The Royals scored first in this one, sparked by an Alberto Callaspo single and a Mitch Maier 2-run Home Run to bring him in. Wilson Betemit followed suit with a solo HR to make the score 3-0, Royals.
With the score 8-6 entering the top of the 9th, Betemit hit his second solo Home Run of the game to widen the gap to 3 runs. Kansas City Royals closer Joakim Soria came in for the save, surrendering an RBI double to Joe Mauer and an RBI single to Justin Morneau before sealing the deal. Final score 9-8, Royals.
